Licence terms

Licence terms summary

This page summarises the end-user licence agreement in plain words. The agreement shown by the installer is the binding text.

Free Imager / Viewer

  • Free for any use, including commercial and government casework.
  • You may install it on as many computers as you like.
  • No warranty beyond what the law requires.

Paid editions (Recovery, Forensic, Complete)

  • Perpetual right of use. You may use the versions released while your maintenance is active, with no time limit.
  • Maintenance. The first year is included. Renewal is yearly at about 27% of the licence price, and a late renewal runs from the previous end date. Maintenance includes new versions and e-mail support.
  • Term licences run for one year at about 40% of the perpetual price, with updates and support. They stop working when the term ends, and your cases then open in the free viewer.
  • Seats. One licence is one activated computer at a time. You may move it by deactivating it on the old computer.
  • Who may use it. The licensee named in the licence, its employees and contractors working on its cases.
  • Licensee stamp. Reports, exports and acquisition logs carry the licensee's name and licence id.
  • Not allowed: sharing a licence key outside the licensee, removing the licensee stamp, or reselling licences except through an authorised reseller.
  • Your cases are yours. Ending a licence never locks a case. The free viewer always opens, browses and exports it.

Academic teaching licence

Free teaching licence for accredited courses (classroom use, not casework). Renewable yearly. Teaching use only: not for paid casework or research contracts.

Third-party components

InVitro includes open-source and third-party components under their own licences. The installer includes their notices, and Help, then About, lists them.
